The community-wide housing figure of 2007 does not describe this village — the homes here are considerably younger — so the equipment has not had time to wear out. Most of what we are called to is therefore not a failure. ## Installation faults look like appliance faults In houses this new, a fair proportion of calls trace back to how the appliance went into the opening rather than to the machine itself. - **An undercounter unit with insufficient toe-kick clearance** runs continuously and never quite reaches setpoint. Nothing is broken; it cannot reject its heat. A plinth detail fitted flush after the flooring went down is enough to do it. - **A supply shutoff left partly closed** under the sink produces weak ice and slow dispenser flow together — and "together" is the signature, because it puts the restriction upstream of the point where the line splits. - **A column panel mounted a fraction out of true** opens a seal gap that shows up as condensation along the panel edge, or as an ajar alarm sounding at night when the cabinet contracts as it cools. - **A cabinet pushed back into its opening on a pinched supply line** restricts flow in a way that is invisible from the front and identical, symptom for symptom, to a failing fill valve. None of those is a refrigeration fault, all of them are cheap to correct, and all of them are worth ruling out before a part is ordered. That is what the early stages of our sequence are for. ## New joinery settles Panels and cabinetry move in their first year or two, and a door that has stopped pulling itself flush over the last inch is the usual consequence. Replace the water cartridge on flow rather than on date. A filter is rated in gallons and the month figure on the box is an estimate of how long an average household takes to reach it; a restricted cartridge starves a fill valve exactly the way any other upstream restriction does, and produces the same small hollow cubes for the price of a filter instead of a service call. ## What the visit costs The diagnostic is $129 flat and is credited toward the repair if you go ahead.
